Sheltered housing

We provide self-contained flats in more than 50 sheltered housing schemes across southern and south east England for around 3,000 people aged 60 or over.

To apply for a place, older people will normally need to put their names down on their local council’s housing register. However, some of our schemes have open waiting lists.

At sheltered housing schemes, residents sign up to an assured tenancy agreement and work with us to draw up a plan of the support they will receive. The cost of this support may be met by funding from the local authority's Supporting People budget for eligible residents.

Most schemes have a dedicated manager who provides support while on duty. Out of hours, residents have access to a community alarm call system.

Scheme managers provide the following services to residents:

  • support residents to manage their tenancies
  • make daily calls to all residents
  • promote continued independence
  • encourage residents to get involved in scheme and outside activities
  • involve other organisations that have resources to offer our residents

To find out if there is any availability at our sheltered schemes, please contact the service centre.
