James Butcher Housing Association
In October 2010 a single charitable housing association, Southern Housing Group Ltd, was formed from the amalgamation of Southern Housing Group Ltd, James Butcher Housing Association Ltd and South Wight Housing Association Ltd.
The former James Butcher Housing Association (JBHA) is now the West region of Southern Housing Group, which consists of around 4,200 properties along the M4 corridor.
JBHA was formed in 1964 by the Mayor of Reading at the time, James Butcher. His main aim was to provide sheltered accommodation for people of retirement age, but the organisation then also developed general needs housing for all age groups. JBHA joined Southern Housing Group in 2006.
